Guide · Comparison
Honest starts with this: they are different categories of product. Breezy HR is a well-liked applicant tracking system with a real free tier; Hireware is a screening tool with engagement tiers above it. This guide lays out what each does, what each costs, and which problem each one solves.

Breezy HR is an applicant tracking system built for small and mid-sized teams, best known for its drag-and-drop pipeline and for being genuinely easy to start with. It posts jobs to 50+ boards, gives you a branded career site, parses résumés, integrates email and calendars, and runs video interviews — one-way or live — on its paid tiers. Interview scorecards, employee referrals, and eSignatures arrive at the Growth plan; HRIS integrations, offer management, and nurture campaigns at Business. Every tier, including the free one, has unlimited users, and pricing is flat per company rather than per seat — a real advantage when many hiring managers touch the process. AI assistance is sold separately as Breezy Intelligence credits.
Hireware is not an ATS. Its entry point is Screen: upload résumés, spend one prepaid credit each, and get back the facts (skills, history, experience, education, stated work authorization), five structural flags with the evidence for each, and a meets-required check against criteria you set. No score, no ranking, no auto-reject — the AI reads, your team decides. Above Screen sit a self-managed subscription for teams that want the full search process run in-house and a managed search run for you; both are quoted on the pricing page. Screen has no job posting, no career site, and no pipeline. That is deliberate, and it is the main thing this comparison turns on.

Breezy’s published plans at the time of writing: Bootstrap is free forever, limited to one active position or candidate pool, with candidate data covering the last 30 days. The paid tiers on annual billing are Startup at $157 a month, Growth at $273, and Business at $439, each with unlimited positions and users; month-to-month billing runs higher, and a custom-quoted Pro plan sits on top. Add-ons stack onto the base price: SMS from $41 a month, onboarding from $49, and Breezy Intelligence AI credits from $30 per 100,000. Flat company pricing with unlimited users is one of Breezy’s best traits — a ten-person hiring committee costs the same as one.
Hireware Screen is prepaid: 100 credits for $100, 500 for $400, 2,000 for $1,200 — one credit per résumé, first ten free without a card, credits that never expire. The fair comparison is by shape, not size. Breezy’s Startup tier costs $1,884 a year and buys a complete hiring system every month, whether or not you are hiring. Hireware’s $400 buys 500 résumés read identically, whenever the searches happen. A company hiring year-round gets more from the subscription; a company that runs four searches a year pays Breezy for eight quiet months or pays Hireware nothing. Our guide to screening software costs runs this arithmetic against staff time, which is the biggest number in the equation anyway.
Choose Breezy if you need a hiring system, not just a faster read. If applications currently live in an inbox, Breezy’s pipeline, career site, and board distribution fix a more urgent problem than screening speed, and the free Bootstrap plan means you can fix it for one role at no software cost. Its scheduling, video interviewing, and scorecards are the connective tissue of a process with many interviewers, and the flat unlimited-user pricing suits teams where everyone weighs in. If you hire steadily across the year, the subscription earns its keep as the system of record, and nothing Hireware sells replaces that layer.
Do look at the tier boundaries before you commit: scorecards and eSignatures start at Growth, and offer management and HRIS integrations at Business, so the plan you end up needing may not be the one you priced first. That is normal tiering, not a trap — but budget for it.
Choose Hireware if the pile is the problem. A posting that draws 200 applications costs about ten hours of careful reading, and the reading is where consistency dies — the fortieth résumé is not judged like the fourth. Screen reads every one the same way and hands your team evidence instead of a verdict: no scores, no ranking, nothing rejected by software. That posture also matters if you hire where automated employment decision tools are regulated — a tool that never decides is a smaller compliance surface, though notice duties can still apply. And if you want the whole search run — brief, screen, structured interviews, offer — the managed tier is a services engagement, and the comparison is with a recruiter’s fee, not an ATS subscription.
Yes, and the free tiers make the pairing cheap to test. Run a search through Breezy Bootstrap — posting, career site, pipeline — and when the applications stack up, put the résumés through Screen. Ten screens are free, so a small search can pass through both products before either has been paid a dollar. At steady volume the same division of labour holds: Breezy (or any ATS) as the system of record, Hireware as the reading layer, credits spent only in the weeks a stack exists.
Upload ten résumés from a search you are running now — in Breezy, another ATS, or an inbox — and see the facts, flags, and meets-required checks come back. If you are weighing the full system, a demo takes thirty minutes.
